Easter in Slovakia overflows with unique traditions. Often misunderstood or misinterpreted, these ancient customs have been labeled obsolete. However, those who know can appreciate their timeless essence!

Easter customs are colorful across the country, but especially in eastern Slovakia. Here, Rusyns have kept the meaning of these ancient traditions alive!

About our guest

Dr Katarina Babcakova is a leading Slovak ethnoarcheologist. Currently working as a folklore expert at the National Awareness Center and the Stara Lubovna Museum, Dr Babcakova specializes in folk dance and Rusyn folk culture, customs and symbols especially. Katarina is not just an academic, she is actively engaged in activities that bring folk culture to life – from choreographing folk dance programs to festivals and competitions.
