What was everyday cooking really like in a village household around 1900?
Who stood by the stove — and who waited to be served?
Who had the honored seat at the table?
What unspoken rules shaped eating, fasting, and sharing food?
In those days, cooking was never “just” cooking. It followed rhythms set by faith, seasons, family hierarchy, and local custom. There was an order to everything — from who prepared the meal, to how it was served, to who began eating first. Even ordinary weekday dinners carried quiet rituals that everyone understood.
