About the event
For more than four decades, Slovakia lived under communist rule. The system shaped how people worked, studied, travelled, spoke, and experienced everyday life — offering stability and social security to some, while bringing censorship, surveillance, shortages, and limited freedom to others.
This webinar offers a concise introduction to the world of communist Slovakia, touching on the Stalinist 1950s, the Prague Spring, everyday life under socialism, and the collapse of the regime in 1989. It is a chance to understand the system beyond nostalgia and propaganda — and to see why its legacy still matters today.
